The project’s main building works are currently on programme with works being achieved as planned and to a good quality standard.
Works to the entrance have been delayed by a week due to UKPN works being carried out to lowering the existing HV main and installing a new transformer to the existing pole on site causing disruption.
The biggest challenge through the works is maintaining access for the articulated lorries to the west area of site from the entrance.
The work have been programmed to enable access with a 3-week entrance closure for the S278 works and UKPN diversion works.
The site has had positive feedback from the Client, Health & Safety departments (internal and external) and building control representatives and the site was chosen to undergo an external audit visit as part of the implementation of the Quality management systems within CCE for which the site received no non-conformances.
Construction of a steel frame and cladded waste transfer unit (90m x 30m footprint, 10-13m height) which includes a reinforced concrete slab on stabilised cut/fill ground with 5m high push walls and includes sheep dip to the south of the building. The building also comprises of 4no roller shutter doors with base provisions for a sprinkler tank as part of the fire system.
The scope includes the construction of a concrete yard to the east of the building along with access roads, parking area, welfare provisions, S278 entrance construction with associated surface water drainage, attenuation systems and foul water treatment.
Works also include street lighting, service ducting network with draw pits and a new electric kiosk to the site.
CCE are acting as principal contractor for the 35 week programme period.
Current works completed up to July 2025.
