Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance
At Chartway Civil Engineering, the safety of our people, partners, and the public is paramount. We uphold the highest health and safety standards across all our sites, underpinned by industry-recognised accreditations and a culture of continuous improvement.
Health and safety is embedded in everything we do. Our management system is built around the HSG65 framework, following the Plan, Do, Check, Act model. This enables us to effectively identify, manage, and mitigate risk throughout every stage of a project, ensuring standards are continually raised. We are constantly upskilling our workforce, especially management in line with our QMS and ISO systems.
We are proud to hold Acclaim Accreditation under the Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) framework, confirming our compliance with industry-wide health and safety practices.
Works are carried out by employees holding the requisite training and competencies for the work to be undertaken. All site employees hold CSCS/CPCS certification.
Our training matrix identifies specific employee needs and are based on company and site operational requirements. These include trade skill and vocational training standards and for managers to hold SMSTS.
Our fully maintained database of all training needs with an auto-countdown facility enables our managers to identify when competencies are due to expire. This enables the company to be proactive in arranging for recertification events to take place, maintaining staff competence in these skill areas. We operate My Training Passport which enables all operative’s training details to be visible via a QR code on site helmets to give full transparency.
The company also holds a regime of tool box talks and team briefings.
All CCE management processes and sites are subject to a rigorous audit process. The objective of the CCE audit process is to assist in the measurement of HS&E performance and to ensure that the planning, implementation, preventative, corrective and reviewing of work practices is being carried out in accordance with both legislative and CCE’s Health, Safety and Environmental Policies and Standards. All findings are used to improve both process and performance.
Findings of audits are reviewed by senior management to satisfy themselves that any major issues or improvements identified are actioned within the designated time scales. Senior Management also carries out site workplace inspections to demonstrate their commitment to the workforce and CCE’s policies and procedures.
