Chilmington Green Primary School
Working for our client, BBS Construction, on behalf of Kent County Council, CCE undertook the groundworks of this new two-form entry primary school to be built outside of Ashford in Kent. The school is to form an integral part of a new community, being the first building in a new countryside development.
The scheme involves the new primary school building comprising of various teaching rooms, library, kitchen, atrium, main multi-functional hall as well as a nursery to one side of the building. On the wider site there is provision for large playground areas, a drop off area, a sports field, hard playing courts, parking for staff and visitors and a wetland area.
Key Issues and how they were managed:
• As this is to be the first building to be completed in a new rural new development, there are a number of access issues that are to be overcome.
• Communication with neighbouring developers, highways department and local authorities for example, is key to allow for deliveries and plant to safely access the site amongst narrow lanes, with minimal disruption to the community. Areas nearby the site where roads are not suitable, or not yet completed, are requiring temporary road access solutions to ensure that we can continue construction, even with difficult routes in the surrounding area.
