Stones Farm – RM1A, RM1B & RM1C

Working for our client Chartway Group on behalf of Swale Borough Council, CCE are delivering all of the infrastructure works at this 600 unit new development in Bapchild, Sittingbourne.

Scope of works:
• 278 works (realignment & new traffic controlled junction on the main A2).
• Infrastructure, new foul pump station
• Extensive earthworks to form a detention basin & countryside gap footpaths
• New school car parking facility
• Foundations & external works to 600 houses (& 5 blocks of apartments)

Key Issues and how they were managed:
• Removal of overhead power lines & diverting underground to incorporate 2 new UKPN substations
• Installation of a new foul pump station capable of servicing 600 properties.
• Close liaison with residents & local authorities regarding on site & 278 junction works

Successful Outcomes and Key targets and project measures:
• New junction completed as programmed
• Successful completion with the storm outfall lagoon in accordance with EA requirements
• Early construction of permanent tarmac haul roads & permanent roads to ensure site traffic access
• External works completions in accordance with client handovers

Lessons learned and Innovations and best practice 
• Close liaison with local authorities to gain their confidence was key to success
• Completing early works diversions on services to allow permanent works to run smoothly
• Bulk ordering materials when the market prices began to increase & when availability became inconsistent, which ensured we were able to build in accordance with programme commitments.
